PARIS, Mar 22, 2003/ FW/ --- In China, there is an art called 'senshi', an intricate process
where patterns or pictures are made by cutting figures out of paper with a sharp blade.
In the fashion world, young designer Daniel Herman brought 'senshi' to the forefront of
fashion with his intricate cuts and weave in the clothes he designs.
Instead of paper which is traditionally used in senshi, he uses fabric. Instead of a knife,
he uses laser. The result - clothes that are works of art, yet meant to be worn.
For Fall 2003, Daniel Herman was inspired by the mythical white raven and its footprints
in the snow of a dark, cold and unspoilt landscape.
It's a very fitting inspiration for the kind of clothes he designs. Like the mythical
white raven which is believed to the most scarce even in the world of folklores, designers
like Daniel Herman are few and far between.
For the talented Daniel Herman, it's not enough that he uses modern technology on an ancient art nor, that
he changed the medium from paper to fabric. He brought the art form into a higher level.
For Fall 2003, the young designer collaborated
with Gessner, a leading Swiss weaving company to create the jacquard weaving seen in his
collection.
Winter coats which signify the white snow and dark winter landcape used the jacquard weaving.
Using prints and laser cut applications, the other garments personified the white raven.
Black and white were the main colors used. Pale colors in wool, jersey and silk were added
for a change of pace and emphasize the black & white theme.
Another great collection from Daniel Herman. It will not be a surprise if some pieces from
this collection make it on the cover of the monthly fashion glossies this fall.
