Daryl K: Dressing to Kill

New York, Feb 15, 2001/ FWD©/ --- From the moment guests stepped off the freight elevator into the warehouse space for Daryl K's Fall 2001 runway show one thing was clear: the mood was right.

The massive warehouse, located on West 26th Street, was the ideal location for the queen of downtown cool to present her collection.

With awe-inspiring views of the city, the stark space was illuminated by nothing but red lighting, which has the effect of making even the preppiest showgoer look edgy.

If Kerrigan gave her models one thing, it was steely ambition.

There were micro-mini skirts in black paired with bright red tights, boy-cut combat jackets and punk-inspired tunics. Jersey shirts were slashed, and oversized sweaters came with zippers down the arms.

The tough chic theme was carried out in the designer's choice of headgear: a mix of military caps and Daniel Boone-style hunting hats with thick raccoon tails.

The most innovative of Kerrigan's looks was a red "ninja" dress with a sleeve that morphed into a hood at the neck, and a turtleneck with a beaded web connecting the sleeves to the body of the shirt.

Kerrigan was not all rough and tough, however, and even came close to pretty with schoolgirl minis, beaded turtlenecks, boleros and shoulder shawls.

Still, the silk-screen shirts she showed with sinister images of hooded men on the back were a constant reminder that, if anything, Kerrigan's models were dressed to kill.
