Dice Kayek Fall 2007: Blending Textures
Paris Pręt-á-Porter (Paris Fashion Week) Fall 2007
By Mari Davis & Miriam Lam
PARIS, Feb 26, 2007/ FW/ --- In Turkish culture, the woman has always been exalted symbolically and traditionally throughout history as the mother figure and pillar of the family. Here comes the woman of Fall 2007 portrayed through the works of Ece Ege in her Dice Kayek line revealed today at the Louvre.
Ece Ege uses a combination of patent leather, metallic designs, and lightly studded collars in her new collection, while at the same time not abandoning her traditional roots starting from softer flowing forms, ruffled collars, and beautifully puffed sleeves.
What is impressive this season was Ece Ege’s ability to keep the look chic while still blending the right amount of frills and frays in order to keep her signature style. Her use of metallic and furs kept her work interesting and gave it texture and variety. Ece Ege was able to blend these textures to create a neutral look that wasn’t overbearing or inaccessible.
The evolution of the label has transformed a more traditional look to a sleek, chic look with boxed figures and high shoulders. Pleated longer village styled dresses became pleated short, puffy mini skirts showing off leggy models adorned by thigh high stockings and of course, adorable high heels.
More sheer bottoms met tresses at the top or entirely puffy mini skirts emphasizing the hips, met with a fine slender waistline. Boxed figured dresses were made carefully enough to create flow while walking, to reveal the slight hint of a silhouette.
Jewels delicately adorned the collars of a few of her pieces and more creatively adorned open backed dresses as if the bare back of a woman was not enough to catch the eye.
Seemingly, and with ease, Ece Ege creates a traditional yet futuristic look that may be the modern day woman seen through her eyes. The Dice Kayek woman of the new generation is feminine, poised, and sleek. She stands tall and proud to be a woman emerging in today’s modernized social scene.
This line is wearable, elegant, chic, and accessible. Keep us curious and keep on evolving Ece Ege…we want to see what the next season brings…
