Haute Couture at MTV
PARIS, Sep 12, 2002/ FW/ --- Radio City Music Hall rocked to the beat of the 2002 MTV Video
Music Awards on August 29, and it seems that American heartthrob Justin Timberlake has
caught the Haute Couture fashion bug.
Justin was decked out in a sharp black evening jacket ornamented by leather cuffs, a
black silk T-shirt and a thin satin tie.
All three pieces were signed by fashion's hottest menswear designer Hedi Slimane, and
came from the Dior Homme Spring / Summer 2002 collection.
Historically aired on the first Thursday of September, the show was moved one week earlier
out of respect for the anniversary of the events of 9/11.
MTV Video Music Awards is MTV's most visible awards show, with a viewing audience of over
1 billion via MTV's 35 channels reaching 382.1 million households around the world as well
as through syndication.
Meanwhile on the other side of the Atlantic, famed rock star David Bowie received the
Outstanding Achievement Award at GQ's Men of the Year ceremony on September 3rd.
The glittering event was held in the main hall of the Natural History Museum in London,
where Stella McCartney presented Bowie with the trophy.
In keeping with recent tradition, Bowie wore a custom made creation from the Dior Homme
atelier, a silver lamé suit, along with the signature Slimane thin black silk tie.
Sharing the spotlight with Bowie were Sir Paul Smith, named Designer of the Year,
Holly Valance, who took the Woman of the Year honor, David Beckham, named Sportsman of
the Year, and David Furnish, who received accolades for Most Stylish Man.
The magazine's British readership voted on the prizes.
The annual ceremony traditionally attracts a wide range of pop stars, politicians and
celebrities.
According to the Times of London, magazines such as GQ are trying to recover from a
disastrous slide in sales, with a fall of 12 per cent across the sector in the past year.
