Jul 22, 2003/ FW/--- In a recent interview Dirk Bikkembergs described his vision of the
future as waking up in a big white down-filled bed in the middle of an open field, seeing
a fresh new light and listening to the calming sounds of nature.
He feels that the latter part of the 20th century has been about communications through
only our eyes, that we have built a society, which stares and yells.
In the new era, we will develop our other senses as profoundly allowing us to listen carefully
and be sensitive in taste and feeling.
His menswear spring 2004 collection entitled, "Total Fusion" is a continuation of that dream,
a symbol of a social evolution involving both the aesthetic and function of clothes.
This is Dirk's man - a product of a harmonious fashion dimension making sport codes its own.
A man who can play soccer in formal clothing and attend a gala in activewear.
According to Dirk, it is NOT "non-conformity," rather, it is a fusion of elements, styles
and codes.
The Dirk Bikkemberg's man is not afraid to wear the dark blue silk pinstripe suit with pants
shortened to reveal athletic legs.
Or wear a T-shirt autographed by players of the Inter soccer team rests on satin pants over
satin pants.
Dirk who is the 2003 Official designer to Football Club Inter Milan created this symbol
of an ideal pact between style and sport, written right on the body.
Dirk's man is not afraid to leave his 'belt' at home when he goes to work. Elasticated
bands on activewear is a functional element of business apparel, made of high performance
support fabrics giving extra ease of movement even at the workplace.
The sweatshirt has changed to, the classic gray sweatshirt is tatooed on ultrasoft leather,
making it 'interchangeable' from the gym to the office.
On the playing field, sports numerals acquire new force, relinquishing their traditional
image to become integral parts of the clothes.
On dress shirts, the numbers are raised to haute couture level, making it a league of its own.
All shown in hues of nature: ocean blue, desert sand, lawn green.
