MILAN, Mar 3, 2003 /FWD/ --- What’s it like to be a superstar 24 hours a day seven days a week?

Not all of us know, but Canadian twins Dean and Dan Caten of Dsquared certainly gave us a lesson in the high-flying, star-studded lifestyle during their debut women’s collection tonight in Milan.

For starters, it helps to be a supermodel.

Who better to catch the I’ll-do-whatever-the-hell-I-want attitude than the Queen Mother of divas, Naomi Campbell, who hit the runway like a thoroughbred galloping towards her prize in the sky as Madonna’s lyrics redundantly pointed out “You’re a superstar!”

Closer to home were the voiceovers that wailed, “I’m late and my feet are killing!” as Naomi, in stiletto sandals, corduroy hot pants and a deep V halter surged towards a life-sized jet airliner coated in bubblegum pink, her hair and a tumbling green mohair sweater coat flying wildly behind her.

A throng of real life groupies gathered at the stairway to the plane, wailing in delight as Dsquared’s non-stop slew of stars descended onto the jet set runway.

Karolina, blowing kisses in a gold metallic apron skirt and red lumberjack cap, Eva pouting in skin tight cloud printed jeans, and Frankie in a fox sleeved leather jacket and super slick white trousers.

Big time names for a first venture out in the women’s arena, but Dean and Dan’s clout is steadily rising based on their high-octane, splashy menswear business which they started in 1996.

This first women’s collection, which admittedly borrows the same men’s collection set and theme shown in January, wisely takes a similarly brazen approach to dressing; boldly mixing the casual with the formal, and creating a highly detailed, layered and stylized look.

Sweatpants, reconstructed into tapered, billowing cargoes splattered with zips and pockets, were paired with luxurious silver embroidered coats. Skirts were ultra short and covered in layers of pockets and tufts, while shrunken leather and jean jackets were worn with bronze metallic cropped billowing pants.

The girls, with their insolent onstage antics (kissing members of the audience, shaking their buns, throwing off hats) matched the clothes, which seemed defiant and unregulated.

“This is free-spirited fashion,” said the twins before the show.

“We’re just throwing it all together and mixing it up. We hate that studied stuff.”

For being men, these two seem to know a lot about women.

“It’s all about going shopping. Or going to the mountains. Then shopping again. Then to work. Then shopping. Then out to a club. And then back to shopping.”

The mixed up looks, all rooted in sportswear, could work in any of those scenarios.

Doubly impressive, they let the models pick their own looks for this show.

“We just wanted them to be themselves and to love what they’re wearing. Now we’re afraid that everything might disappear from backstage after the show!”

If they’re truly superstar divas, the answer to that question is a no-brainer.
