MILAN, Jan 18, 2004/ FW/--- Warm, yet sexy, cosy and casual. D Squared looked to its roots, that of Dean and Dan, the Canadian twins behind the design team, for inspiration this season, when they opened the third day of the men’s autumn winter 2004/05 collections in Milan.
Woodcutters and Rangers that patrol the Canadian forests, their muse, breaking from major trends seen this week in the fashion capital, no slick slimming silhouettes (except for the finale) and neatness nowhere to be seen, while the seventies, rightly so, have been and gone.
Fur head gear, goose feather down jackets, baggy trousers and leather pants are all part of the D Squared wardrobe which is highly functional and protective against the cold harsh winters whether urban and otherwise.
Red and black pallid print, ala construction worker and knit with reindeer and bear figures are perfect for sitting around an open fire after a hard day in the snow.
Obviously we don’t all live in the wild, and their style harmoniously mixes street with nature.
Ties are put under lovely leather jackets with jeans, wide pants sit low on hips giving sneak previews of perfect masculine behinds and large knitwear is comfortable as are the cashmere sweaters which are adaptable for any occasion.
Nights are reserved for tailored black or white suave evening suits, jackets have stain lapels and trousers fall perfectly to the floor.
The final exit could not have been anything but a bare-chested woodcutter, long johns lowered as he carries an armful of logs.
Eccentric as always, fun and practical, D Squared continues to demonstrate that they are here to stay and will no doubt this season fill commercial orders for urban wear that is highly sort after.
