MILAN, Oct 1, 2003/ FW/ --- Lately there has been a lot of talk about the potential of the
Canadian duo Dean and Dan Caten that design the label D Squared2 and last night was the
first in a series of ‘tests’ that saw the likes of Anna Wintour of U.S. Vogue in the front row.
From their re-constructed diner in a huge warehouse space on the outskirts of Milan,
D Squared2 served up a collection for spring summer 2004 that came roaring
onto the runway via Harley Davidson was a Grease finale when Sandra D decides to turn rough.
The 1950’s high school beauty queen discovers biker leathers, body hugging everything,
the joy of being a possible playboy pinup and very visible thighs.
Eva Herzigova opened the show dressed in a pink top that tied just below her breasts and
beige coloured hip, leg and rear end accentuating capri pants equipped with exquisite high
stilettos and 1950’s hairstyle.
Accentuating the body through figure hugging leathers and the like, Dsquared’s motto is
definitely ‘if you’ve got it why not flaunt it!’
Baby dolls were worn both alone and over tight denim three quarter capri pants.
Homage was given to the 50 years of playboy (D&G however were one step ahead, maybe due
to calendar times, or maybe due to experience) with a tight body suit cut low around the
leg and bunny ears.
A-line mini skirts sat on the waist and strapless leather dresses with zips and bows added
in the portrayal of sexiness rather than the use of transparency.
Swimming cossie tiara wearing prom queens strutted their stuff without a hint of prudeness.
An elegant touch came from short brightly coloured tailored jackets with a single button,
while the bomber was reworked as ultra short with puff sleeves and upside down, as the
waistband became the collar.
Dare I say lacking in creativity and somewhat repetitive, D Squared2 still managed to show
a hint of luxury with the final pieces by using feathers and beads that shimmered in the
light, unfortunately this will not be enough, especially if they are to enter the big league
of trend creators.
Only time will tell, but hype is something they have gotten down to a tee.
