Dsquared2 MILAN, Feb 23, 2007/ FW/ --- Behind the curtains, sounds of chains and yelling could be heard from the seats while the crowd on the other side anxiously awaits the unveiling of the new Dsquared2 collection.

Dean & Dan Caten put on a show and is one of the few designers that has a curtain and a stage to be hidden behind it. Part of the excitement of their shows is the unveiling of the set and the tone it sets.

So, as chains and yelling can be heard, people began to get mighty anxious as to what DSquared had in store for us this time…. The Thunder Dome in a stage setting where half the dome was set up and covered with yelling people dressed in black and hanging on the outside of the dome. Two male figures in black leather pants were spot lighted hanging by one arm in the middle of the dome.

After an aggressive dance of twirling and swinging around the dome, they made way to the entrance to welcome the first model. Hot, sexy, powerful woman! Out she came in 10 inch plus heels and patent leather a mix of Mad Max and S&M.

Much like Mad Max, she is a survivor a warrior and a fighter, if provoked. The whole collection was made up of very bold daring pieces that played on this idea of the S&M dark warrior. Shoulders were exaggerated much like Mel Gibson and Tina Turner’s costumes in the Thunderdome. Armor took on materials like patent leather, metal gold’s and sparkling jewels.

The collection had the original spirit of Dsquared2, one of provoking, enticing and testing the limits. Taking the quote from Auntie Entity in Mad Max, “You think I don't know the law? Wasn't it me who wrote it?” we get the mood of the Dsquared2 woman. She is a lawbreaker but so above is that she is also the lawmaker. She is the dominatrix.

Following sadism and masochism, inspired by equestrian gear, they modeled belts and hats after horseracing supplies. Taking harness blinders and making them part of a bright pink patent leather hat, Dsquared2 accomplished a new modern S&M look. Also inspired by horse bridles and breastplates they made belts that bandaged the body.

The color was black to it’s fullest while pops of color were used to exaggerate certain details. Shoes were the most constant color in a bright patent leather pink. Down vests and jackets came in deep purple, bright yellow, and royal blue but the overwhelming power was still black. That’s what bold is being about and black is always good.

The Caten twins have done it again. The Thunderdome in Milan may have been short lived but it will be well remembered.
