PARIS, Mar 1, 2004/ FW/ --- Tonight at the Palais de Tokyo, emerging designer Sadaharu Hoshino designing for his own label ES showed his second collection, a statement in gray and blue.
The Central St. Martin’s graduate chose autumn’s gray and blue sky as inspiration for this off-the-wall collection.
Fall collections that are usually marked by the vibrant colors of the changing leaves were left into the wayside by Sadaharu Hoshino.
The former assistant to Alexander McQueen and Keita Maruyama chose instead to be poetic by emphasizing the other side of the coin – the earth is dying and winter is not far behind.
Using layering and draping techniques, which the young designer showed that he has a good mastery of, Hoshino proposed that come fall, women could leave their stilettos and boots behind in favor of running shoes.
Continuing with that less than formal attitude, coats had a ragged edge, giving it a raw look. But don’t be fooled by that because the tailoring is actually impeccable.
That said, it is now safe to say that this collection is not meant for the uptown set, but for the downtown set who are not afraid to experiment with clothing.
The target market is also young – from fourteen to thirty-four and no junior leaguers please. It’s for the young and hip.
