PARIS, Oct 12, 2006/ FW/ --- Sadaharu Hoshino designing under the label ES is making a name for himself in Paris as an alternative designer who puts another dimension to the term ‘luxe.’
Unveiling his Spring 2007 collection to a full capacity crowd at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts’ Chapelle des Petits-Augustins, the Central St. Martin’s grad wowed his audience with a deconstructionist collection with a rock & roll attitude.
Think of Kurt Cobain deconstructed, then reconstructed for womenswear with luxury in mind.
Cigarette pants with fringes on the outside seams was paired with a long-sleeved white shirt that is actually sleeveless because the sleeves were turn into an adornment instead of functional. Then, it was layered with a raw-edged tuxedo vest.
It’s Seattle sound without the thrift shop effect. It’s Pearl Jam and Spin Doctors with a luxe grunge.
But, don’t think of the collection as derivative, because it is truly original as Sadaharu Hoshino was only influenced by the Seattle scene, took the best from it and made the silhouettes entirely his own.
Take the gray and brown striped mini dress for example. Done with a cowl neckline and styled with a fringe scarf made from the same fabric, the rock & roll attitude was there but it’s very wearable and commercially viable.
The same goes for the walking shorts and black & white stripes hoodie shirt layered with a soft suit jacket.
All the pieces are wearable and can easily be transitioned from the showroom to the sales floor. No wonder that though ES had only been around for only a couple of years, it is garnering fans from the mainstream market while keeping its cult following.
