PARIS, Jul 9, 2005/ FW/ --- For Fall 2005/Winter 2006 French couturier Eymeric François takes us all on a romantic and festive trip to Venice during the much celebrated festival time.
Replete with much fantasy fanfare, François began the show with his usual rock & roll razzle-dazzle. It would not be long before applause would follow and accompany the silhouettes created by the young couturier: a tuxedo with tails ensemble, a dress woven from ribbons, his now infamous zipper dress, etc.
For this collection, François created a cocktail dress in his sewing pins. This is harlequin dress probably captures a great part of the collection with its festive feel. It like the other dresses in the collection is embellished with carnival masks that the young couturier created by hand.
However, with all the great things that Eymeric François does, one has to wonder why he would elect to send out a model with her bare butt revealed to the audience.
The dress in question is a black and gold lace dress, which is barely long enough to cover from the front the natural essentials of a woman’s privates. It is a flaw to the overall collection.
This flaw has a shocking affect because although the carnival costumes of Venice are decadent, they do cover the body. And with a talent such as Eymeric François’ such theatrical shock and awe stunts are most unneeded.
Another minor flaw in an otherwise perfect collection and show came in the form of François’s zipper dress in black and gold. Although stunning, one would have to say that the model chosen to wear the dress did not have prerequisite generous proportions needed to give life to it. This error was quickly erased by the appearance of the black and red dress and by the black lace and the ribbons dress.
In the end, François should not and cannot allow these kinds of minor flaws to be reproduced. He has been showing now enough on the big stage to be able to foresee the clientele’s and press’s reaction.
He is widely considered by most experts to be part of haute couture’s future. With this privilege comes the great responsibility of being perfect at all times and particularly when it comes to important details.
