Farah Angsana: At the Buddha Bar
By: Timothy Hagy
PARIS, Jul 3, 2003/ FW/ --- Incense rose to the ceiling, candles floated down in pools
around the huge image of Buddha, and Farah Angsana presented her third menswear show at the
Buddha Bar near the American Embassy.
For security reasons, the street is shut to all traffic last Monday, and so guests filed
by submachine gun toting riot police in a driving rainstorm to make their way inside.
All was clam and serene.
Of Indonesian origin, and a graduate of the Central School of Fashion in
London, Farah has chosen to present her collections in Paris.
Her colors are beige, brown and copper with touches of orange and lime,
symbols of the sunset in Bali or the forest during the rainy season at
Sumatra.
Silk and linen recall tropical nights on the beaches of Java. According to
program notes, Farah Angsana's men seem ready to leave the sea for the sand,
there to frolic. Well, several editors of both sexes were certainly hoping
so, as they could barely stifle their delight.
The assortment of top models chosen for the show, more often than not, came
attired in less, rather than more. One wonders if the samauri wrestler
bathing suits will be a must, though the bikinis certainly will.
By the time we got past those, most of the room was fanning.
A finale of rainbow suits must have worked wonders, for by the time the show
ended, all was clear and dry.
