Milan, June 28, 2002/ FWD/ --- English dandies met Italian playboys at Fendi's spring/summer show in Milan
Thursday, which was a slick statement about sexy men's style.
Fendi, a house whose reputation was built on brilliantly luxurious furs, has been pushing the envelope with
its men's collections, using everything from funky denim to cottons normally associated with jogging.
The Fendi man is a playful chap who loves colorful British stripes, but for suits - not shirts. He'll don a
snappy mohair suit with vents, but jazz it up with woven leather rope belts and lived-in cotton piquet shirts.
Designer Silvia Fendi has stretched Fendi's men's wear into more avant-garde terrain. Thus, neat linen cricket
blazers come with soft cotton sweatshirt sleeves, or Levi-style jackets appear brand-new blue at the front and
majorly faded at the back.
The collection included plenty of winning accessories, in particular a great broad belt with double buckle
and a zip down the middle.
The uptempo mood of the collection comes right when Fendi is making a determined effort to raise its profile
in men's fashion.
"We really believe in Fendi's men and think we can grow the business considerably," LVMH fashion boss Yves
Carcelle told FWD. With the deep pockets of LVMH and Prada bankrolling the house, expect to see a lot of Fendi
on the fashionable guys' circuit from now on.
