NEW YORK, Feb 17, 2002/ FW/ --- Francis Hendy's Fall 2002 menswear line paid homage to
decades past with 30's glamour and 70's funk.
His staples, like Ultrasuede and leather, figured prominently in a collection that would
please his famous customers N'Sync and Macy Gray.
Felt fedoras and broad-shouldered coats gave the show a jazzy gangster flair.
Colors like evergreen and toffee made his leather jackets and trousers particularly rich.
70's style took over when turtlenecks replaced dress shirts under suits while long
coats with fur trim swept down the runway (and would suit any wannabe
mack daddy).
The last look down shown was a reversible (another popular Hendy detail) black Onel evening
coat with contrasting mulberry lapels and a stand-up collar so high that Elvis just may
come back from the grave to have it (that is, if he is dead, of course).
The womenswear portion of the show was also based on the same platform of 30's glamour fused
with 70's funk.
Long leather skirts, matched with short cropped jackets or long coats with fur trims at the
sleeves or lapel were the main fare for womenswear.
Shoes were leather boots with stilleto heels, creating a very sexy look.
For men's shoes, Francis Hendy teamed up with Hush Puppies with the runway comeback of
the classic suede slip ons. Earl II and Lee II were updated by Hush Puppies to have
broader toe and thicker sole while maintaining the classic styling.
