Sep 8, 2001/ FW/ --- On Your Mark, Get Set, Show!
Francis Hendy was more than ready to show off his Spring 2002 collection which was inspired by
everyone from Nascar racers to tropical vacationers. An explosion of color opened the show with an array
of slouchy comfortable bottoms and tops (and sometimes just bottoms). Hendy used various dying techniques
to create his printed garments from batik to tie-dye to grafitti-style spray paint.
Any man headed for an island getaway would no doubt want to pack a few of these pieces into his suitcase.
For those summer night, Hendy thought guys should shine as bright as the moon. A delicious array of
sherbert-colored shantung suits was paraded down the runway.
The group of three and four-buttoned suits was sophisticated and particularly tasty.
He also took full advantage of his fabric staple, Ultrasuede. He pieced it, perforated it,
and embroidered it. He made it into suits, shirts, trousers, and jackets.
Best of show goes to the chocolate safari suit that harkened back to the decade Ultrasuede was born.
But although Hendy is handy with faux suede, don't think that he won't work with the real thing.
Leather was used in varying degrees as he believes that leather for warmer weather is definitely an
option.
There were baggy shorts fit for a hip-hopper, cropped black leather jackets for that rebel
without (or with) a cause, and entire suits that any race car driver would proudly sport. In fact,
Hendy not only dressed the driver, but also the pit crew, as seen on the model wearing the black jumpsuut.
No doubt, Hendy's speed team would look great on any race track.
