Francis Hendy: Soccer To Fashion

Born in Trinidad, Francis Hendy's first passion was soccer. He had an injury while playing his favorite sport
and while recovering he started designing clothes.
Setting himself up in New York's garment district, Francis Hendy studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology and
Parsons School of Design to hone in his skills. A natural tailor with a fashion vision of "freedom, adventure
and individuality," his clothes were first seen in R&B and hip-hop videos. And thus, the soccer world's loss
was a fashion industry's gain!
A very talented and innovative designer, Francis Hendy won the Menswear Design of the Year from the Michael 2000
Awards. Known for his work on leather, the designer also has a solid grip on color, natural and synthetic fabrics.
His designs are considered daring and fashion forward.
He debuted at 7th on Sixth during the Spring 2000 season.
