PARIS, Feb 28, 2005/ FW/ --- Gaspard Yurkievich’s Fall/Winter 2005-2006 based on romance and love was received with lukewarm reactions by those in attendance.
The designer began the collection with dresses and ensembles done in gold lame. His parka coat with feather-trimmed hood was interesting enough but nothing really special. Was this his way of going for a commercial look with flair?
The spirit of this collection is toned down in comparison to his other achievements in the past. That was evident in seeing his utility vest with straps in the back and feathers as well. Again here, nothing that excites the senses…
However, Yurkievich did manage to do a splendid coatdress that is worthy of his talent.
He closed the show with long dresses that were to embody the spirit of the romantic mood in which the designer finds himself. Unfortunately for him, these silhouettes only managed to achieve a sense of unrequited love among the journalists.
It is a pity that this collection lacks the trademark X factor that journalists and buyers have come to expect of the young designer and most particularly after the wonderful Spring/Summer 2005 collection that he presented to six months ago in Paris and to universally enthusiastic reactions.
However, the young man has six months to get back on track and the fashion world and his fans will be impatiently waiting for it.
