Gaspard Yurkievich PARIS, Oct 4, 2004/ FW/ --- Gaspard Yurkievich’s show at Salle Wagram proved to be the same as before. That is, a journalists, stylists and buyers capacity filled event and just as the young man likes it.

The show began with a live band. When the smoke machine started pumping out it thick product, and the fluorescent lights started flashing with a blinding effect, the photographers could be heard doing their usual moaning and groaning in protest. However, they were quickly silenced by the power of the collection shown by Mr. Yurkievich!

This collection was dominated by bows, but not just any! His were inextricably created into his skirts. It was nearly as though he created a large bow and built the skirt around it. Dare I suggest that the young designer is on to something new?

His silver dress with this bow leitmotif has wedges cut from the sides. It is daring and has bounce to it. As they girls stormed the runway, it was as though the bows carried them to another plain of style.

As the most interesting leitmotif seen since a very long time in a fashion collection, Yurkievich skilfully worked his bow magic again into a dazzling shoulder-less top. Caution must be used when wearing it because only full, beautiful shoulders will do.

The translucent black mesh top is a clear example of the young designer’s efforts to liberate the female body from constraint and conformity.

His knockout skirt ensemble looks as if it were inspired by Aztec pyramids. It has an element of structure but isn’t confining at all. His little black dress, like the other skirts and dresses were well above the knees. It has spaghetti straps and is sexy.

Now for his pants, Yurkievich opted for silver hipsters and then a basic pair of ladies’ trousers. One dress in the latter part of the show was in dark lilac. It appeared to have plastic, lace-inspired trims in pink. How’s that for diversity?

At this time in his career, Gaspard Yurkievich is red hot. He is young, talented and popular with the right people. He is certainly posed to go very far in the near future. With this collection, he has once again proved that he is the man to watch.
