DALLAS, May 14, 2007/ FW/ --- For Fall 2007, Paris-based designer Gaspard Yurkievich found the perfect blend of creativity and commercial viability proposing easy-to-wear pieces that would appeal to his cult following and the mainstream fashionistas.
Yurkievich made his name in the very competitive Paris fashion scene with his street and urban clothes with French aesthetics, making his creations unique. Even without the novelty factor that the designer tries to infuse every time, Yurkievich’s collections have gotten more wearable season after season without losing track of his original design philosophy.
For Fall 2007, Gaspard Yurkievich reached a milestone as he chose inculcated artistry with continuity and wearability.
Since Spring 2007, Yurkievich has been working with leggings, from solid colors to prints, something that he once again used for Fall 2007. That made the retail buyers happy because that is what they are usually looking for in a designer. They do not want a flash in the pan; they want someone they can rely on who would come up with a credible collection season after season. And that is Yurkievich’s first milestone.
The second milestone is that he was able to combine elements that he has used before, like the bows, the brief jackets and conquistador pants and still make them look fresh. And instead of looking like a mish-mash, it was actually very tight and coherent, another plus in the eyes of the retail buyers and of course the fashion press.
And third, he introduced a new takes in the blouson, making them quilted for a more formal look, but cut in such a way that it was still street wear.
Last, but not least, he reinterpreted the ‘apron dress’ with knitted tube sweater mini worn over long sleeved silk jersey pullover and sheered mini skirt rolled at the hem. A novel idea and yet familiar, making it another unique Yurkievich creation.
