PARIS, Oct 6, 2006/ FW/ --- Continuing the ‘leggings’ idea that he showed during the menswear season, Gaspard Yurkievich gave the 1980s homage with his Spring 2007 collection proposing print leggings and drop down waist dresses in black and gray plus a splash of blue for highlight.

Opting for simple classical cuts with very little embellishments, Yurkievich’s take on the 1980s has hip-hop elements that made the collection commercially viable with an alternative-dressing feel.

Round necklines on dresses, snug fitting jackets paired with cigarette pants, layered minis with asymmetrical hemlines and double-breasted 6-button trench coats dominated the collection.

A conquistador shorts style jumper in plaid stood out as a fun outfit while the leggings, either as hose or knee-high socks were the focal point. Nude legwarmers were also seen on the runway, but they were more decorative than functional, as the season dictates.

Yurkievich who is known in Paris for his thought-provoking and artsy collection has learned that creativity and commercial viability can exist in harmony in one collection.

While keeping his alternative edge, Yurkievich has also found the perfect balance between art and commerce when it comes to fashion.

Like most collections this season, the wearability factor was very visible in this collection, complete with accessories such as shoes, bags, and of course the leggings that had already been mentioned.
