MILAN, Feb 23, 2005/ FW/ --- At a very fitting space of the Milan Tram System Garage, Gilles Rosier presented his Fall 2005 collection wherein he traveled from the medieval to the gothic, then romantic periods in history and came up with the best street wear silhouettes this season.
Using the tracks as a makeshift runway, models catwalked in Puss N’ Boots-styled shoes in very masculine clothing, making them look like cavalier women.
Jackets inspired by the Spanish conquistadores, jodhpurs styled pants, vests adorned with coins from the Galleon trade, Cracker Jack pants from the Royal Navy, and peplum-inspired skirts dominated the collection.
Everything can almost be called a “period piece” but with the models’ eyes in black eye shadow and mascara, giving the look a gothic feel, everything was very modern and contemporary.
With Gilles Rosier's superb tailoring and masterful styling, everything was in a perfect pitch, including the long black capes and the tiered gowns sheered and ruche at strategic places.
Though the collection is classified as street wear in the grand scheme of things in fashion, the outstanding workmanship and detailing surpasses the genre.
The aviator jacket was turned into a long leather coat lined with lambskin; the leather vest was ruched to give it a very feminine feel and the windbreaker was given dolman sleeves for freedom of movement.
Gilles Rosier who has always had a very loyal following did not have a hard time filling up the big hall. Though he was the last show of the day and literally started an hour late from the scheduled 9:00 PM show, everyone was happy to stay and the Paris-born designer did not disappoint his audience.
