Gilles Rosier: Innovative and Artistic
By: Boyd Davis
Photo below: Gilles Rosier on the runway Fall 2005.
A Paris native (born 1961), Gilles Rosier studied at the Paris Chambre Syndicale de la Couture.
After graduation, he worked at Pierre Balmain, Christian Dior and Jean Paul Gaultier before
he decided to strike out on is own in 1992.
First, he launched GR816 label but after seven collections, he stopped and launched the label
Gilles Rosier.
Both labels were successful commercially and gained exuberant praise from the
fashion editors.
When Kenzo Takada was planning to retire, he looked for a designer who would continue the
spirit and identiy of the Kenzo label.
Giles Rossier trained under Kenzo Takada and designed
several seasons of Kenzo's womenswear collections before Kenzo handed it over to him.
He designed several collections for Kenzo and then left the company to concentrate on
his own label.
