Paris, Jul 1, 2001/ FWD/ --- Enjoying success elegantly has always been what Hermès has been about, as the
house's latest men's collection presented this weekend in Paris again underlined.
Designer Veronique Nichanian went for a sensitive, even ecological mood this season, sending out a collection
dominated by forest green, highlighted by the late evening shafts of light filtering through the windows of
the UNESCO headquarters, where the collection was staged.
As ever, the quality of the leathers was outstanding, whether used in tight little beige blousons or deep gorge
calfskin tops. She also aged the surfaces a little, in a new direction for this tony collection.
Veronique's accessories all had her trademark stylish simplicity; Roman sandals with tiny buckles and beige
military belts worn over some of the best cotton trench coats seen in Europe.
The pants were slimmer than normal and came in micro-check poplin, under high-collared shirts in a giant
criss-cross pattern. All told it was a classy collection, though to be honest, not quite up to Nichanian's
high standards.
