Isabel Marant: Contemporary & Strong
By Timothy Hagy
PARIS, Oct 7, 2003/ FW/ --- Isabel Marant is one of the set of emerging designer the
Fédération Française de la Couture chose to highlight on the first official day of the
Paris Ready-to-Wear season for Spring / Summer 2004.
And her accomplished show, staged at the Carreau du Temple, started the day on a fine note.
To a black and white backdrop of planes, trees and clouds, she sent out breezy collection
that went the gamut from micro short skirts, and string bikinis, to clinging ankle-length
skirts, and knee-length slacks rolled up in cuffs.
Among the chiffon and sheer tops, one knit bolero-style sweater was cut off and paired
with pants.
Abstract print skirts were worn with paint-speckled leggings, while splashes of turquoise,
pallid blue and deep mauve balanced the fundamental black, white and charcoal gray color
scheme.
Wide leather belts frequently wound around the models, while long scarves trailed along
the catwalk.
At times, intricate layering, and cut outs added a rich dimension to the overall lightness
of the look.
Isabel Marant is a talented young designer well on her way to a bright future.
