Isabel Marant Spring 2007: Little Red Riding Hood Meets Le Boheme
Paris Pręt-á-Porter Spring 2007
By: Nikki Gaskins

PARIS, Oct 4, 2006 / FW / --- Isabel Marant showed a bit of theatrics and hint of fairytale in her Spring 2007 collection. Renowned for her gorgeous boots, there was no disappointment there. The colors and shapes will take you through all seasons.

The continuing trend says that everything must be hooded and/or has pockets; she stayed true to this recurring theme throughout.

Opening the show with a hooded hounds tooth jacket and bubble-pleated skirt, reminiscent of Little Red Riding Hoods outfit to meet granny, just a little more toned down and a lot funkier.

The girl who wears this won't have any problems fighting off the wolves. The look was confident, fun and carefree. The breezy tunics in silks and raw cottons gave an earthy bohemian twist, laissez faire comes to mind.

Fringe bottom embroidered tunics gave an eclectic mix of comfort and ethnic influence, accents on the tunics ranged from Madras to Muslim with intricate embroidery details and tassels hanging from the hems.

Hints of shine in the collection were the gold and silver threads used as accents in an otherwise muted palette consisting of army green, dusty rose, light grey and black. Reinforcing the emerging trend spotted at 2 out of 3 shows, scalloped edges on the bottoms of shirts and dresses gave a smooth and delicate feel to the clothing.

The fabric choices ranged from raw cotton to refined silk . Silhouettes skimmed the body or enveloped it in this season’s ode to volume.

Standout pieces were the long boy overalls in polished linen and a black silk pocketed onesie; androgynous, yet very sexy and comfortable.

The entire collection could have walked right out of the door and into the streets. New York will love the grunge layering and dusty palette, reminiscent of Marc Jacobs and France will appreciate the blouson gypsy tunics. Isabel Marant spun an international fairytale of style and sass.
