PARIS, Mar 1, 2005/ FW/ --- She was born out of the silver screen, of the contrasts of light and shadow; she’s the Issey Miyake woman for Fall 2005, who is an entrancing reality in your life while she remains the hypnotizing element of your imagination.
Inspired by a black & white film by Japanese director Yasujiro Ozu, Naoki Takizawa recreated the ambiance and beauty of yesteryear’s cinema.
Devoid of color, except shades of gray, it was all about details, textures and volume, as the designer created “Contrasts,” sending the models in pairs, each almost a mirror of each other in black & white, with small differences to make a distinction, and in turn make a statement.
A 9-button trench coat, 6 in one side, 3 on the other, the draped-cape part of the garment, crinkled on the 3-buttons was shown with a black trench coat, which was faux-double-breasted, with the closure in the center instead. The two models standing side by side; it was dramatic, it was a statement!
And what a statement! Naoki Takizawa broke new grounds in fashion as he reconstructed the dress suit with volume and texture. The inside blouse was flimsy beige chiffon, sheered at the collar, while the beige pin-striped jacket was tailored and partly quilted with piping and darts; the adornment that served as a barely-there necklace was made of ethereal crystal and very thin blown glass! Imagine that in black & gray, as it was the contrasting look.
For sportswear, ski jackets will never be the same after this collection. White high-tech fabric was quilted with black curvy piping that made it look like it was an abstract painting in black & white. Again, it came in the contrasting look of white on black fabric.
It’s the silver screen goddess once more, but she was not the ingénue or the femme fatale. She’s the artistic muse born out of the artist’s imagination. And the artist’s name is Naoki Takizawa.
