MILAN, Jul 2, 2004/ FW/ --- The fashion house of Issey Miyake has always been known for its innovation; whether speaking in terms of fabric research and technology or ideas and designs lead by Naoki Takizawa, and the collection he produced for summer 2005 is no exception.
Colour is definitely back, and while Takizawa apparently seems to be a non-mainstream man is extremely appealing as he sent out looks in yellows, pinks, blues and greys set against night blacks and neutrals.
He sprays the bottoms of ties and straps dual bags to hips, thighs and chests reminiscent of carpenters tool belts in a fun take on mixing his ever-important concept of tradition and modernity.
Mini black ad white checks and almost 1960’s college bomber jackets are all part of this collection designed for comfort without the lose of style. Casual pants have a long lowered crutch that creates volume to be modified by the individual through buckles and zips up and down the legs.
Hidden yet important details mean that a Miyake wardrobe is full of continual surprises and diverse functionality. Tops have ribbon running down inner seams while aprons are placed over pants and worn with collarless shirts, and there is even an appearance of a tunic or two perhaps hinting at ancient traditions and cultures.
Shorts are cut to the knee, as is his swimwear, wetsuit like in appearance with graphic definite lines worn with his finale surprise of a portable cape cum raincoat that simply zipped out of a life jacket or blow is up pillow type bag.
The distinctive Miyake feel is fun and light, but don’t be fooled by appearance, Takizawa is a talented tailor and dedicated researcher as he bases his collections of very strict and stable foundations.
