PARIS, Oct 8, 2002/ FW/ --- It fell to Jean-Paul Gaultier on Saturday, the 3rd day of the
Paris shows, to most accurately seize on the mood of the times.
What the world most needs now is a good dose of legerity, and that is just what he
presented at his magnificent show on Saturday.
With allusions to the mobiles of Alexandre Calder, his models began with airy performance
on trapeze that set the tone for the lightness of the collection.
And in contrast with his men's line shown last July, he seized on the theme throughout.
Of special interest was a set of bathing suits and beach wear that drew direct inspiration
from Calder, as well as the supper baggy cut of slacks that were made to float in motion.
Dresses draped and flowed, and even a chiffon micro-mini was full of air.
And of course there is always that magnetic sexual tension, that erotic undertone that
permeates each piece, just as with his Haute Couture show.
It is almost as if smoke curls sinisterly in the passing breeze.
With this fabulous ready to wear collection, Jean-Paul Gaultier has sewn up his reputation
as an undisputed master of the fashion world.
