NEW YORK, Feb 23, 2003/ FWD/ --- Once again Jeremy Scott wrapped up New York Fashion Week with an injection of his irreverent glamour.

This time the designer directly referenced his Hollywood home base, staging a red carpet presentation in which models were interviewed as actresses arriving to the premiere of his film, “Starring …”

Scott himself, clad in a scruffy tux, his mullet held back with a black bandanna, served as reporter.

China Chow opened the proceedings, wearing a gown that read “Sunset Boulevard,” the first of many graphic-printed pieces.

Other gowns read “goddess,” “bombshell,” “Hollywood” and “Tinseltown.”

The classic glamour theme played out in lush white stoles, zebra wraps and a feathered capelet, and Odile Gilbert coiffed the models as old Hollywood – or Chicago – starlets, with closely cropped ‘dos evocative of Renee Zellweger’s Roxie.

As is Scott’s wont, however, tongue was always in cheek and most of the models were sporting metallic high-tops – in white, silver, black or gold – with their “Jeremy Scott Couture.”

In this fall collection clearly formulated with the LA concept of the colder months in mind, a series of Daisy Dukes – in blue denim or white – also made their way onto the mock red carpet, some with “Jeremy Scott” emblazoned on the back.

Even the cut-offs continued on the Tinseltown theme though, paired with long white gloves, gold-lame blouses or a Hollywood Walk of Fame gold star bag (reading “Jeremy Scott,” of course).

One white jean jacket had gold Oscars on each sleeve.

The kitschy futurism that Scott often explores also creeped in in a few looks, like space-age silver high-neck wraps.

These were no longer the standouts though, eclipsed by peacock-feather pants, metallic Grecian robes, and an elegant, gimmick-free red satin strapless gown.

Though the clothes were interesting and the presentation concept novel -- at first -- the troops assembled at the Tribeca Grand Hotel for their last fashion fix of the week were certainly restless (and cursing the event’s cash bar) as they waited for the rambling interviews to give way to the film portion of the evening.

While some of the models provoked a few laughs – Rie Rasmussen wants to work with “Scott Spielberg – if you’ve got anything, I really like sharks. I’m not scared” and is “still expecting an Oscar” for her performance in Taxi Driver 2 – much of the mock interviews reminded us why models walk – not talk – on most runways.

Miss Piggy, rumored to be the celebrity co-host of the evening, was unable to attend, but sent along a note to “dearest friends of Jeremy” explaining her absence: “due to a personal matter, a scheduling conflict, two roadblocks and a restraining order, moi cannot be there as vous celebrate the unveiling of Jeremy’s new collection.”

She promises to be there next time though, and entreats us to “be kind to the dear boy.”

As for “Starring …,” the soap opera filmlet showcased Tori Spelling in a pink lame leotard and painful Southern drawl as Bobbie Jean Blue Jean and Asia Argento as Sexist Worthalot.

The highlights were the commercial breaks though – what does Amber Valletta do when she has cramps?

“I reach for Jeremy Scott Couture. Ask for it by name.”
