NEW YORK, Sep 24, 2002/ FWD/ --- Front-row editors, buyers and Barbara Bush looked
on with smiles of amusement as Jeremy Scott, showing for the second season in New York,
sent out another futuristic and imaginative collection.
Opening with variations on mini dresses in blue and silver or beige and bronze, they looked
to be Scott's interpretation of air hostess uniforms.
One had a cape, another cut low at front and back, another a cross strap back, and there
was also a hooded version.
Some of the models even carried silver airplane bags with 'Scott' splayed across.
What this segment of the collection did have in common was their precision and inventive
cut, something which the Kansas farm boy is quickly becoming known for.
No doubt Scott was inspired by the costumes he recently designed for Harmony Korine's
latest film 'Nun's the Word,' which according to Scott is "a movie about nuns who jump out
of planes."
As the song "Everyone is Someone in L.A." blasted out so did a slew of bikinis, all small
and strappy, some cut very daringly on the bottom, back and front.
To hide their modesty the models wore sheer capes and coats, some of them worn from the
head for a veil like effect.
The collection may not have had quite as much space-age flavor as last season but it was
just as otherworldly.
For evening Scott went down under the sea, a draping silk print dress, sheer dresses
in purple, pink and white with sea plant prints, were sprinkled with Swarovski crystals,
shells and suede shreds.
Accessories were shells worn on the ears and a conch handbag.
Another dress in sheer gold had a bodice made completely of feathers.
The all white mermaid finale was quite a spectacle complete with shells on the breasts
and shoulders; she shimmered and shimmied down the runway.
The show itself was high-energy and eye-catching as always, but commercially the clothing
may be more modest.
