Jeremy Scott Shines In L.A.
By Tessa Benson

Jan 3, 2004/ FWD/ --- New York has Marc Jacobs. Milan's got Prada, Paris boasts Valentino. But, no one designer may carry the burden of a city's style identity more than Los Angeles' own Jeremy Scott. So, when the Crown Prince of L.A. fashion has a show, his disciples flock to his court in droves.

"Venus Rising," Scott's spring show, was no exception. Taking place downtown at the MOCA museum's Geffen contemporary building, the out of the way address only made the event more alluring. With a queue at the door that could have rivaled 54 in its hey day, guests and crashers alike, whistled and waved white cards in a desperate attempt to gain entrance.

For the 45 minutes before the lights went up and the magic commenced, outrageously dressed hipsters milled about in newsboy hats, and "re-worked vintage dresses." And what is L.A. without a see and be seen? Lining the 100 ft. catwalk were Rosario Dawson in Jeremy Scott, Amy Fleetwood, Ione Sky, Kelly Slater, Steven Cojocaru, China Chow, and Donovan Leitch.

The space themed landscape was peppered with enormous "moon rocks," while the rainbow flowy robes, beaded bathing suits, and feathered shirts Scott sent down the runway brought smiles and admiration to the on lookers.

Jamel Hammadi styled the model's hair in long pigtails with hair elastics tied at every inch, giving off the look of bobbles. The shoes were Christian Louboutin for Jeremy Scott. And the make-up, which served as the cherry on top, was by Lancôme, done in deep oranges and ruler-straight blush and glossy rubicund lips.

Overall the show was a huge success, keeping the die-hard fashionistas happy and hungry for more. Ione Skye "loved it" saying, "I think women will like this line because it shows sexy parts of the body. And I particularly like the little mermaid aspect to it." Model Alexis Edwards whose breast fell out during her strut down the catwalk confirmed "He's dope. He makes you feel like a diva." And in Hollywood, isn't that the look they're after? Los Angeles is hurting for a fashion scene to call its own. If a few more talents like Scott make the left coast migration, it just might work.
