PARIS, Jan 28, 2006/ FW/ --- It’s a little bit of Goth, a little bit of rock & roll… John Galliano’s take on Britishmania is Charles Dicken’s Oliver Twist.
The setting, the gritty side of London, as in the Charles Dickens novel; the models wore long hair and dark eye-make up; the look – lean silhouettes, low rise pants, generously cut coats and trenches, prints on shirts proclaiming ‘Galliano Lone Wolf’; the accessories – top hats including a Dr. Seuss green hat, mufflers that look like gigantic socks, crosses worn as oversized necklaces, Freddie Kruger masks, WWWI aviator goggles and hats.
This being Galliano, it was a full on theatrical show. But this is menswear, so you really do not have to dig deep to find the treasures like what you have to during womenswear.
Hence, it was easy to see the winter coat with two-tone lapels, the military inspired peacoat with oversized lapels covered with shearling, the micro-fiber bomber jacket, the leg-hugging leather pants and crocheted arm warmer that can also act a sleeve for a vest.
The shoes and tote bags are covetable too. The army-inspired leather boots will find their way in a man’s wardrobe come fall, while the leather totes are great for weekend getaways.
New this season is the way Galliano put smocking in a regular tee, giving it volume. Usually reserved for women, the British born designer’s take actually looks masculine.
And for ultimate luxury, try Galliano’s men’s lingerie. They’re colorful, fun and luxurious.
