Julien Macdonald: Sexy Nights
By Michelle Taylor
LONDON, Feb 20, 2004/ FW/ – Sexy nights and feminine feline days for the thirty-something Julien Macdonald who closed London’s fall 2004/05 fashion week on Wednesday night.
A pleasant surprise for the man they call the Welsh Gianni Versace who placed a mix of 1940’s and 50’s inspired looks on his catwalk in the mega Millennium Dome in the UK capital.
But not all is sparkling on the Macdonald front, after announcing that he will no longer lead the Givenchy design team in Paris earlier this year in January and with only two weeks left until his final bow, stress is rife as he lashed out during the week to British tabloids threatening that he may choose to show in Milan next season due to the current lack of funding, government support and presence of international buyers.
Though since 2001, being with Givenchy has matured MacDonald’s style as he realises that great clothes do not need to be flesh baring in a move away from Brit pop paparazzi starlets and instead towards timeless screen diva’s of another calibre.
Models wore fur stoles and trimmings, tight pencil skirts to the knee, neat little blouses and knitwear tops. Coats are fun in animal reminiscent fur prints or plain and elegant.
Waists are accentuated with high and wide belts, high heels are a must and round tipped while little leather gloves add an accessory elegance to the collection.
Evenings are reserved for feathered and sparkling glamour. Dresses come in floor flowing length, knotted and off the shoulder, gathered or with plunging V’s, or in short and ultra sexy twinkling versions, fit for international red carpet ceremonies be it music or cinema.
A successful collection that sees this London supporter continuing to prove himself as one of the top export design talents there is currently on offer.
