Julien Macdonald Fall 2006: ‘We Will Always Have Paris’
London Fashion Week Fall 2006
LONDON, Feb 14, 2006 / FW/ --- Brit designer Julien Macdonald might have left the City of Lights, but another Paris is in his life, this time the notoriously famous American heiress Paris Hilton, opening his show with a strapless cocktail dress sculpted at the waist to show off her curves then the skirt was gathered and sheered to give a girlish look.
Alright, Paris Hilton is no longer a girl. She had grown up to be an entrepreneurial woman with a perfume bearing her name and a much-publicized broken engagement. But, one has to accept, she is the perfect muse for Julien Macdonald – rich and famous and used to opulent luxurious living.
Because this is what Julien Macdonald’s Fall 2006 collection was all about - homage to luxury and glamour done with fur, diamonds, and beautiful clothes.
Pencil skirts and plaid relaxed fit trousers are paired with fur coats and jackets. Even the lowly tank tee has become a statement of lavishness with a spray of glittery crystals encrusted in front.
The term ‘day dressing’ is loosely used here, because every item of daywear can bring a lady from day to night beginning with the midnight blue ensemble of hip hugging skirt divided by gores and godets flaring around the knee that was paired with a long-sleeved sculpted top (once again) embellished with a bow for a touch of sophisticated romance.
It’s all about attitude to the nth degree. Because truly, if you don’t have the right mind-set, you will be the shy and timid Mrs. De Winter is Daphne Du Maurier’s novel ‘Rebecca’ compared to Julien Macdonald’s ladies.
And, as if the bling-bling, the high slits, and overt sexuality on display were not enough, Julien Macdonald topped it with Paris Hilton as the bride in his finale.
Now, that scene was enough for all the photographers at the pit to keep on clicking, hoping that the flash cards in their cameras have enough memory to hold all the photos.
