Julien Macdonald Spring 2006: Colorful & Full of Glitz
London Fashion Week Spring 2006
LONDON, Sep 18, 2005/ FW/ --- An exuberant collection bursting with color was marred by a PETA protest, but it did not take away from the splendor of the show. In fact, it actually put Julien Macdonald on the headlines.
And it was the irony of ironies because there were really no fur being shown (this is the Spring collection after all), that is, unless ostrich feather is considered fur, which by the way, the Welsh-born designer incorporated beautifully in gowns and cocktail dresses.
In fact, the collection is all about colors and glitz, with those beautiful island flower prints, dripping Swarovski crystals and glistening beads.
It’s all about luxury! And though the L.A. factor is probably not here, Julien Macdonald is within reach of Hollywood, especially with the very deep V-necklines of his eveningwear that were embellished with Swarovski crystals and ostrich feathers.
He did not use the ‘red carpet’ as prop though. The runway was strewn with Persian rugs, definitely more luxurious and more subdued.
Nevertheless, the message is clear – Julien Macdonald is London’s brightest star and he is making sure that it stays that way.
An interesting accessory used in the show – wooden bangles and necklaces gave a striking contrast to all the glitterati that were shown.
