LONDON, Sep 22, 2006/ FW/ --- Julien Macdonald is known for his overtly sexy, glamorous creations for celebrities and socialites like front-row attendants Tara Palmer-Tomkinson and Tamara Beckwith. But for this season Macdonald hit a more sensuous note with his nod to the disco glitz of the late 1970’s.
The enthusiastic claps of the audience were matched by the roaring sounds of helicopters and the jungle piercing through the speakers when the lights dimmed. The first-face Jacquetta Wheeler stomped to a booming disco soundtrack in a luxe satin cropped-blazer and pleated hem skirt.
Royal blue, white and muted gold dominated the collection with a hint of lavender and yellow.
Sexy swimsuits were key looks, including a white maillot with metal ring closures along the side and Alex Wek in a gold leather bikini.
A white satin tuxedo suit recalled Macdonald’s stint at Givenchy and would be a smart choice for any lady who makes her rounds at swanky cocktail parties. Lily Cole looked brilliant in a backless blue gown with a diamante brooch at the cleavage and satin bow along the backside. A jewelled fringe dress with large gold discs was also an audience favourite.
Prettiness abounded in floral prints mixing lavender, yellow, midnight blue and pink tones. It was nice to see Macdonald work from a softer space. Hopefully, this mix of sensuality and prettiness will persist in future seasons.
