PARIS, Oct 8, 2005/ FW/ --- Over 50 exits of ultra femme silhouettes and sharp tailoring, Junko Shimada proposed bright gingham checks and bold shades of the color wheel for Spring / Summer 2006.
Opening with an all white sundress accented with thin black piping as finishing, the look was fresh and upbeat. Lightly fitted with a hint of sheer on the waist, the idea was comfort and style.
Emphasizing the female form with highlights on the waist and shoulders, Junko Shimada went for slim tailored looks in her slip dresses that were usually sleeveless or done with spaghetti straps.
Embellishments consist of bows below the bust line, on the waist or just above the hips. Sometimes, an obi-wide band finished with veined piping of the same material was added as an accent.
As outerwear, Junko Shimada re-did the trench coat in several permutations – conventional cut just loose fitting, or extra-loose fit with sheering at the waistline. It even became a dress done in tulle.
Giving a nod to the accordion pleats craze that had been seen on the runway from New York and Milan, Shimada proposed shocking pink and shocking blue cocktail dresses with ruffles and accordion pleats.
Everything was lovely and everything will sell, though the show could have used some editing. Over 50 pieces shown in a 15-minute period is a little bit much even for the three-minute attention span of the MTV generation.
