PARIS, Jan 29, 2003/ FWD/ --- About the most ubiquitous look this autumn for men will
be the fitted distressed leather coat, and if you want to don that, look no further
than Lagerfeld’s men’s collection.
Fitted and faintly Prussian with its twelve buttons and convertible collar, Lagerfeld’s
double-breasted military redingote had excellent attitude, as did similar six-buttoned
looks in black, leather or merino wool.
Karl also winked at recent fashion history in a series of T-shirts and mini bags printed
with Paris + Icon, recalling the ‘80s when designers would wearable invites to shows in
the Louvre’s Cour Carre.
Smooth cotton/satin one-button suits in pearl gray, shirts with exaggerated ruffles or
two-button detachable collars, plus sleek velvet jackets and pants made up a collection
that had just the right mix of dandy and gentleman.
It’s not an easy collection to find.
Lagerfeld is sold in a limited number of stores, and its showroom is way at the back of
courtyard opposite the Bibliotheque Nationale.
A pity, as this collection contained some great clothes.
