PARIS, Oct 5, 2002/ FW/ --- Laser beams shot red arrows against a white backdrop, as a high voltage collection for Lagerfeld Gallery jolted into motion this morning.

Karl Lagerfeld's quintessential genius is his ability to adapt styles within the array of labels for which he designs, and still to endow each one with a fundamental elegance.

And season after season, he thrives in producing sizzling creations, while other designers seem left searching for something further to say.

Today's fashion moment most definitely belonged to the Lagerfeld Gallery, and the huge crowd that jammed the undercroft of the Louvre was treated to Karl at his very best.

Long benches covered in white cloth were set up the length of the amphitheater, with four additional rows placed in the middle of the wide runway.

The show opened with a series of pale pink silk blouses, some with intricate textures, worn with short skirts and metallic belts.

Each model's hair was tied up in a back scarf, a striking detail that recalled an elegance of a bygone era.

Eventually, the palette came to include pastel blues, lavenders and even hot violet.

The cut of each piece of the collection accentuated sensuous lines, and created a sexiness that continuously frothed.

A series of razor sharp jackets in black were ornamented at times with puffed sleeves, and for evening, adorned in sequined scalloped tails.

A white evening jacket glistened in sequined lapels, while sleeveless tops were worn over sparkling lace blouses to create a shimmering effect.

For the finale, a series of Lurex swimsuits came down the runway, worn with hooded, glittering robes.

The victory lap, as well as the savoir faire of contemporary elegance, was made complete when Karl joined his models dressed in one of Hedi Slimane's black, single button jackets, jeans, a white evening shirt with a black silk bow, and Dior Homme Al13 sunglasses in silver.

When it was all said and done, the collection proved one of the strongest seen this season on Parisian runways.

The very contemporary chic style is one that connects mightily with the younger generation.

Ask any fashion conscious teenager, especially one who wears Diesel jeans, and they'll tell you that Karl Lagerfeld "is an awesome dude that rocks".

And rock the Summer 2003 Lagerfeld Gallery collection did, from beginning to end.
