PARIS, Oct 5, 2005/ FW/ --- A U-shaped runway, encircled by fiber optic lights, it’s the club scene circa Spring / Summer 2006 as Lagerfeld Gallery proposes tailored silhouettes for the metro girl that blur the line between daywear and eveningwear.
Sportive and hip, Karl Lagerfeld took inspiration from the graphic and stylized looks of the 1960s and then reinvented them as accents on the bodice, hemlines and lapels.
Tailored without looking rigid, the circles added softness, like the white short sleeved, short-cropped tuxedo jacket worn over a white long-sleeved lightly fitted shirt with tails hanging out giving an air of informality.
Tone-on-tone for layered tops and a striking contrast for the bottom, like the black chiffon shirt worn with a black jacket then paired with a stark white walking shorts, Karl Lagerfeld once again found the pulse of the youth – individualistic taste to be different yet very much a part of the group.
And that explained the softer forms that followed like the beige lacy slip dress with
embroidery just below the waist, a sweet and innocent look that was immediately contracted with another lacy slip dress, this time in black that featured a wide leather belt complete with studs and rivets.
In their seeming disparity, coupled with the fiber optic lights in the show, Karl Lagerfeld touch on the zeitgeist of the echo boomer generation, the target market of this collection – great team players who are also overachievers, and it shows in the clothes they wear.
