DALLAS, Jul 12, 2004/ FW/ --- Louis Vuitton, which is celebrating its 150-year anniversary,
is one of the most recognizable brands in fashion, and so is its logo. Marc Jacobs (photo at left) is very aware of that, so for the Louis Vuitton Spring 2005 menswear collection, the New York-native decided to celebrate the famous LV monogram.
Clean-cut lads from Eton or Harvard, wearing jackets featuring the LV monogram or carrying a gym bag or carryall, again with the famous initials was the main fare of the show.
Cutest of all is the Louis Vuitton teddy bear, seen on the arms of one of the models. Even a girl would want that. But for the gentlemen, it’s the shoes and loafers that were eye-catching. In the signature Louis Vuitton brown papered with the LV monograms, its something that can be worn anywhere and everywhere. Most of all, it matches everything! After all, it is Louis Vuitton.
Though this is a logo feast, Marc Jacobs’ growth as a designer was also very apparent. Bringing back the double-breasted suit styled with a muffler and worn with beige shoes, members of Class 2005 will grab them off the shelf for their job interviews.
It’s also for the active gentleman, the ones who frequent the tennis courts and country clubs. Pullover vests, easy-wear shorts, V-neck sweaters with lattice prints; the Louis Vuitton chap will turn head wherever he goes.
Marc’s new thing this season is the piping on lapels and jackets that came as thin as a cord or as wide a ribbon. Dark on light or vice versa, it looked sleek and suave.
He also played with monogrammed scarves, using them as sashes and replacing the belt.
With all of these charming things, the must have accessory is the “turtle” that found its way on the suit lapels, sweaters, jackets, even the bags.
