PARIS, Mar 10, 2004/ FW/ --- Another proponent of alternative fashion, the Lutz show at the BETC Euro RSG did not have the same oomph that the other emerging designers showed last March 2 in Paris, the date which was dedicated by the Chambre Syndicale to highlight young designers.

To be fair, it was the 10th show of the day, scheduled at 6:30 PM, but with the shows running late, it was almost 7:30 PM when the show started. Though it was not raining, the bitter cold of winter could still give you a good chill.

This was also the second show that we saw at the venue, wherein earlier during the day, Gaspard Yurkeivich presented another take on alternative fashion.

Hence, it was hard not to compare. Couple that with being tired, hungry and cold, fashion critics become more critical.

With laser lights and techno music, the show started with promise. But when the clothes continued to be bereft of color except for the occasional gray and white with a dab of red at times, the audience countenance did not improve.

There were some good looks, like the olive jacket with pleats at the lower half of the sleeves and bodice and the beef o’ mutton gray jacket with a standing Nehru collar and zipper closure strategically placed asymmetrically.

But the high heels and bobbie socks proved a little too much.

Maybe it was just bad timing. Maybe everyone was just ready to call it a day, which started at 9:30 in the morning with the Isabelle Ballu show. But somehow, the whole show did not gel at all. There was no cohesion.

It’s hard not to think that last Spring, Lutz showed a very strong collection made of stripes and knots that had the making of a cult fashion following.
