NEW YORK, Feb 20, 2002/ FW/ --- "Monday is for purity, Tuesday is dynamic, Wednesday brings
hope, Thursday hearkens mysticism, Friday has so much passion, Saturday is full of energy
and Sunday has mystery."
Spanish designer Manuel Fernandez celebrates his fourth season in New York with "Seven," the
designer's interpretation of the days of the week, giving each day a color and an emotion.
The show notes say, "If each day has its stars, planets have their own colors, our soul is
not going to be free of nature. Far from it."
Playing on the magical number "seven," Manuel Fernandez divided the show into "seven" parts as
you would expect.
Starting with an all white ensemble for Monday's purity, the long haired jacket and fitted
pants, set the tone for the whole collection - glamourous and fashion-forward, worthy of the
beauty queen, the downtown set and the uptown princess.
For Tuesday, the designer sent denim and blue silk. Sounds incongruent? Wait till you see the
looks!
The designer pulled the whole thing together with a play in texture and construction.
Meant for the downtown set, "Tuesday" clothes truly reflect the downtown crowd's dynamism
and fashion-forward attitude!
Wednesday's green reminded me of the four girls in "Sex in the City."
The three-quarter sleeved short-tafetta and gathered skirt is so Carrie Bradshaw while the
wool coat and pimfore dress is something Samantha Jones will wear.
Thursday's purple ensembles either trimmed with fox-fur or paired with a cape emanate
a sexy and "mystical" look for a romantic evening.
Manuel Fernandez showed his innovative approach in leather with the embroidered red leather
double breasted jacket.
The "red" looks almost have an eastern influence in it, yet definitely modern and urbanified.
Friday's gold collection will be just in time for the holiday parties. Definitely not for
the faint of heart, because the "gold" looks are for those who wants to be noticed. Definitely
for the "energetic" woman is loves life.
Sunday's "mysterious" black is not for church wear. Using cashmere, velvet and
sheer fabric, Manuel Fernandez created a wardrobe for the femme fatale lurking in every
woman.
To say that Sunday's wear is provocative is an understatement. And these Sunday looks coming
from a designer who hails from "very Catholic" Spain adds a tongue-in-cheek flavor to it.
A total of 49 looks divided into seven segments. Eclectic by its very nature. Manuel
Fernandez pulled it all together by using hair pieces for each day of the week the clothes
represent.
Words and photos do not do justice to "Seven." You have to see it and feel it! And if
you are lucky, wear it!
