NEW YORK, Sep 13, 2003/ FW/ --- Last night in Bryant Park, designer Manuel Fernandez paid
homage to his native Spain with a gorgeous collection befitting the sultry, mysterious and
beautiful senoritas of his homeland.
"It's a tribute to crafting and an exaltation of the Spanish identity," Manuel Fernandez
quoted.
And what a tribute! Starting with the sexy and very revealing swimwear that will easily
blend in the white sand beaches of Puerto Banus, Spain, to the casual knits in black and white
for a
walk in the park, a day at the tennis courts or just going around town, the collection is a
winner from the moment the first model walked on the runway.
The audience was so enthralled that they applauded when they saw something they really liked,
and they were very generous with their applause during the show.
Evening wear which ranged from cute mini-skirts to full length gowns look so delicious that
it was easy to imagine a lot of them gracing the red carpet during the upcoming Emmy Awards.
And the hats created by Condela Cort for the collection gave Philip Treacy a run for his
money when it came to couture headwear.
This season, Manuel Fernandez also introduced his accessories line. The designer sent
"Manuel Fernandez by Lonte" shoes, handbags and small leather on the runway.
To say that Manuel Fernandez has 'gone a long way' since his New York debut during the
Spring 2001 season will be an understatement.
The designer has quietly evolved as a force
in the New York fashion scene with his collections that continuously tittilate the
imagination of the fashionistas.
This season, Manuel Fernandez also revived his men's line that has been in hibernation
for a decade.
"MF man is sexy, self-confident, without complex, in the new so called metrosexual look,"
the show notes quoted.
There were a lot of wearable items in the 'sporty' section, but the designer faltered a
bit with the formal wear for men.
Knowing Manuel Fernandez, he will instantly come up with a better formal look for men
next season.
Because, that is the designer's greatest strength - the ability to raise the bar on himself
and come up with something better as each season passes.
