Marcel Marongiu PARIS, Jul 5, 2005/ FW/ --- Minimalism often works best and Marcel Marongiu knows its appeal intimately. Spring summer for 2006 is a blend of the 1960’s, black and white films and the saltiness of the sea.

Inspired by David Hockney and his Californian poolside atmosphere in the film ‘Plein Soleil’, Marongiu shifts to Italy’s south in the sixties and elite boys boarding schools.

While the link in all this is tradition, Marongiu sets out to embrace the sartorial by modernizing its feel. Fitted suits are neat, knit is wide and super light and V-necks have hoods.

Military hints come via pea coats and shirt shoulders before moving to paneling and the quirky combination of college rugby tops with shirt hems and sleeve cuffs that peep from underneath.

The classic meets the casual via dark denim jeans and double-breasted Naval jackets strictly in crisp Captain white, while essential stripes and herringbone are mixed and matched at ease to create an elegant masculine wardrobe based on a classic era with the sunshine of the Italian Mediterranean in its back pocket.
