Marcus Constable: An Emerging Talent

Fall 2001 is Marcus Constable's official debut at London Fashion Week on-schedule show. Last
season (Spring 2001)was his real debut on the catwalk, and though it was not scheduled, it
attracted a big crowd and marked him as a name to watch in London's fashion scene. And
this season, Marcus Constable more than met everyone's expectations.
Sponsored by Top Shop (whom Marcus Constable designs a line of clothing), the presentation was
minimal, sans the histrionics and lavish staging. Except for the obligatory loud music and
sign at the catwalk showing who is sponsoring the show, it was all about clothes! Models paraded
one of the most wearable collection in the London season.
Geared for the urban woman, Marcus Constable presented a capsule wardrobe - at work, at play
and a nightout in town. The collection is for the modern woman who enjoys classic clothing
with a sharp edge of modernity.
Using black and white as the basis, Marcus Constable started with a black assymetrical skirt paired
with a mini two-button jacket. The color palette then expanded to dark red, blue, ecru, shades
of brown. Leaning towards solid colored fabrics, there was also random striping, just for the
fun of it.
Pants were low waist and slim fitting. The hemline was not defined, nor the neckline. Marcus
Constable played peek-a-boo, showing more flesh at times then covering everything on the next
run. And yes, the hose is back, and you can wear them in different colors,
instead of just "nude."
Exploring the tension between primness and sensuality, high necks were playfully balanced
by low backs and deep V-necks. Classic tailoring of edgy silhouette paired with simmering
sensuality was the fare for the evening. Marcus Constable had found the perfect balance
between primness and sensuality.
My favorite for the evening was the one button black coat with quasi-Nehru collar, the
lapel trimmed with faux fur. The shoulders were rounded for an updated look. This is something
you can wear everywhere - to work and to a party.
The speckled ecru coat was also beautiful with its Nehru collar and shoulder buttons. I was
just wondering the length of time to take it off.
A very strong and wearable collection! Retail buyers will be pleased. And Marcus Constable
is DEFINITELY a name to watch in the London Fashion scene.
