Marjan Djodjov Pejoski's Flying Fashion
By Boyd Davis
For Fall 2001, Marjan Djodjov Pejoski was inspired by the peacock and other things that fly!
His interpretation of the birds was fusing rock & roll with glamor. It started with Alek Wek
dressed in band uniform done in blue leather. (Marjan Djodjov Pejoki's homage to military chic?)
After that the runway turned into an aviary, models literally strutting the catwalk like a
peacock.
Think of pop art translated into garments. On netting, an applique shaped like a peacock and
decorated with real peacock feather is something you cannot wear anywhere, but on stage while
performing if you are a singer or band member.
A Canadian geese graced a hot pants outfit, the fabric runched in the middle right where the
wings of the geese should be, the wings becoming the sleeves and the bodice of the garment.
The wearable creations are miniskirts and hot pants which are either beaded or decorated with
appliques of flowers and/or peacock feathers. The brown fur-trimmed hotpants look warm enough
if you wear leggings and boots with it during autumn, but might not be enough during those
cold winter nights.
Generous cuts were used, and most of the tops were blousoned, although there were some
body hugging knitwear that were also presented.
During the finale, models became birds! One model was a black ostrich, complete with the
long neck and head of the bird. Another model was a white geese, the bird's long neck laid
diagonally from the shoulder. Lastly, there was Alek Wek as a white Canadian Geese.
Are these birds migrating for the winter or for the summer?
