MILAN, Feb 26, 2005/ FW/ --- When you think of Sportmax, you think of basic sportswear… Not anymore! For Fall 2005, the Sportsmax woman has become a sophisticate with a dash of haughtiness and sass.
Taking elements from 1920s, the decade of speakeasies and carnival queens, Sportmax proposes a cavalier look for women complete with the sensual and rebellious undertones of turn of the 20th century America.
Alternating between generously cut pants and jodhpurs, paired with either functional shirts or lacy tops and worn with stacked heel boots, the collection vacillated between a sweet innocence to a strong ready-to-face the world woman, just like the decade that inspired it.
Frilly or puff skirts that are times beribboned were mixed with very practical winter coats. Culottes once again made it to the runway, this time matched with art deco print shirt with dolman sleeves.
There were times when the collection looked like it was all over the place. Yet, if we consider that the 1920s was also all over the place, then, it starts to make sense.
There were a few faux pas though. The horizontal striped long gown just seemed a little too much. Other than that, everything was lovely.
Lots of wearable pieces that will surely fly off the shelves come fall, including the pearl and antique brass necklaces and bangles.
