MILAN, Dec 20, 2003/FW – Luminous and always ready to tackle the day, the pure essence of the modern urban woman has a lot to do with being able to move accordingly from business meeting to dinner.
A colour palette of pastel pinks and blues with splashes of purples and earth tones dominated the Max Mara Spring 2004 collection.
Jackets are short and well represented this season, but the real star of the show is the vest.
It is classic and abbreviated as it emphasizes female curves of the upper body and cris-crosses at the back.
Skirts fall to the floor or stop at the knee, as do the light flowing dresses in printed floral fabric for a hint of conservative sexiness with large splits running up the middle or to the side.
Shorts that are vaguely safari style turn metropolitan with large pockets, while trousers, which few and far between, are pinstriped with hems manually rolled up to the ankle suggesting that real elegance is not necessarily about the sartorial as much as it is about how one carries oneself.
A touch of grace in their use of lace, cashmere, chiffon and leather with delicate appliqué decorative detail, all of which will see at offices from Milan to New York initiating new dress codes ala Max Mara.
